Use of models in analysing effects of earthquakes on arch dams
Theoretical calculation of response of arch dams to earthquakes requires prior calculation of natural frequencies and mode shapes of dam; it is valuable to be able to check theoretical frequencies and mode shapes by experiments on models; this paper describes such experiments on both single and double-curvature arch dams; novel experimental method is described for measuring mode shapes of curved surfaces vibrating with small amplitude.
