At bottom of high fill approximately 230 ft deep required for relocation of Interstate Route 5 through Tehachapi Mountains in California, 96-in. concrete pipe culvert was designed to carry drainage through embankment; pipe, manufactured to 6 ft lengths, has 26 in. walls of 5000 psi concrete and weighs 32 tons; ASTM A-431 steel was used for No. 9 reinforcing bars; total length of culvert is about 1/4 mi; construction techniques are described.
