Galvanizers promote merits of zinc coated rebar
Two reasons for increasing use of zinc coated rebar are that bond strength of galvanized rebar to concrete is equal to or better than that of uncoated rebar and that leading American architects and engineers are now specifying this material for major buildings and other concrete structures; costs for hot dip galvanized reinforcing steel will vary considerably with size, configuration, and quantity of rods; reported failures and maintenance costs weigh heavily in favor of zinc coated rods; galvanized rebar helps to avoid staining of concrete exteriors and to prevent cracking or spalling of concrete.
