Investigation of concrete in Eisenhower and Snell Locks st. Lawrence seaway
Field observations and variety of sample tests showed that deterioration of concrete Eisenhower Lock resulted from exposure of saturated areas to severe freezing on termination of navigation in early winter before concrete had matured sufficiently; immaturity resulted from use of natural cement which matures slower than portland cement; samples were taken from both structures and subjected to variety of tests and examinations.
