Shallow prestressed girders for Fresno underpass
Shallow and hollow box girders, of prestressed and precast concrete, carry four railroad tracks over five-lane street in Fresno, Calif; bridge has two spans -- 51.0 ft and 58.0 ft -- and overall width of 74.0 ft; deck contains 39 of 3.5-ft square pretensioned girder units; girders are connected by epoxy grout joints which transfer live load shear and provide torsional resistance; box girders are seated on elastomeric pads to accommodate vertical and temperature movement.
