Ingenuity speeds Elkhorn Bridge
Techniques of construction of twin bridges, each 40 ft wide and 3630 ft long, with earthfill approaches and on and off ramps at each end across Sacramento River north of Sacramento, Calif; concrete conveyors that extended from shore to cofferdam across work trestle fed directly into tremie pipe; crane lifted both tremie pipe and conveyor at once in efficient concreting operation; earthfill approaches were placed by dredging; crane was used to support pier re-bar cages overnight in foundation concrete to eliminate need for splices.
