Tests of anisotropic shales for foundation of large bridges
Loading tests were arranged on cast-in-place concrete piles; string strain-gages set into piles enabled to divide load into parts taken over by skin and by point; stress-strain curve was also determined separately for skin and point of pile; up to certain limit predominant part of load falls to skin; rock along skin shows greater relative deformations as compared with settlement of point; mutual influence of adjacent piles is substantially greater at pull-loads than at press-loads.
