Conical prestressed concrete water tanks
Tank bases have been designed incorporating three jacking points in each base to permit releveling of tanks, if necessary; conical shape was chosen as being stiffer than cylindrical shell, yet lending itself to straightforward prestressing techniques; each tank has form of inverted cone with maximum diameter of 96 ft and walls sloping at angle of 45°; walls are prestressed both vertically and horizontally and measure 8 in. thick; formwork for domed shell roof was supported on radial trusses; concreting sequence of dome was similar to that for tank shell, two gangs working in opposite directions to complete one annular section.
