A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
In continuation of earlier report (see Engineering Index 1966 p 3123), prefabrication, floating, sinking and installation of 140 m long underwater section consisting of seven reinforced concrete caissons with total water displacement of 20,000 tons are described; during all construction stages, measurements of tensile forces in reinforcement, caisson weight, ballast distribution, base pressure distribution, settlements, and other measurements were made; some of these, such as measurements of thermal stresses and strains in reinforcement, concrete, and steel casing are still being continued.
