Severity of fires in steel-frame buildings
Thermodynamic analysis is developed to estimate temperature and duration of fires in buildings of any size; basis for analysis is heat balance that requires accounting of total energy available from combustible material in building; important aspects of combustion and heat transfer during fire are considered; mathematical statement of heat balance for fire in building is given in equation; suggested severity curves for fire tests.
