Improving melting and casting practice of 38KhMYuA aluminum-containing chromium steel
On basis of theoretical concepts regarding reasons for spotty segregation in Cr-Al steels, new steelmaking practice was developed for production of 38KhMYuA steel; by protecting steel from secondary oxidation during casting, rejects due to poor macrostructure in 2.8 ton ingots were reduced from 10.5 to 2.9%; this made it possible to eliminate production of uneconomic small ingots.
