Influence of strain rate on ultimate strength values of reinforcing steels
Tensile tests were performed on four types of 12 mm diam reinforcing steels to determine effect of strain rate on yield stress, proof stress, and tensile strength; results of dynamic tensile tests performed at various constant strain rates showed that all three magnitudes increase with increasing strain rate and are up to 10% higher than corresponding results of statical tests; only latter should be therefore used in statical design of steel construction.
