A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
History of water works may be divided into three parts: development of system based on erection and operation of Massachusetts Ave. Station with its intake and tunnels from 1852 to 1903; planning and construction from 1903 to 1915 of Colonel Ward Pumping Station and new intake at head of Emerald Channel with necessary tunnels; improvements in operation of stations and reduction of water waste with view of making possible construction of modern filter plant of ample size; this period covers past ten years.
