Water from new Scituate Reservoir is carried to Providence through Scituate Aqueduct, westerly portion of which consists of tunnel 3 1/3 miles long; this tunnel is in hard rock for its entire length and is of horseshoe section, 7 ft. high and 7 1/2 ft. wide, except for short portions adjacent to portals, which are circular; entire tunnel is lined with concrete.
