Providence, R. I., water supply -- The Scituate dam
Main dam of Scituate Reservoir is earth structure 3200 ft. long on top with maximum height of 180 ft. above lowest point of rock foundation; operation of placing soil core constituted distinct separation between two porous parts of dam, upstream and downstream backing; tabulation recording progress on refill and embankment for dam and dike; use of trestles which, in author's belief, should be permitted in earth dam only when precautions are taken to secure compact fill at trestle.
