Critical assessment of paper by E.Ritter et al, indexed in Engineering Index 1963 p 1855; some of its conclusions are objected to, on basis of experimental results; reason for discrepancy is attributed to fact that behavior of large killed steel ingots rolled on slabbing mill is different from that of large ingots of rimming metal, circumstance not taken into consideration in article referred to; while former spread sideways when rolled in edging passes, latter densify from first pass onwards.
