Soil-cement reinforcement of highways
It is often advantageous to use soil-cement base course, usually covered with bituminous mix surface course; major characteristics of soil-cement to be considered are ultimate tensile strength and deformation modulus; it is shown experimentally that, along with cement content, main point is choice of soil which conditions quality of reinforcement; main criteria are granularity, maximum dimensions, angularity, and hardness of aggregates; dimensioning of reinforcement, mix preparation, and laying of reinforcement without traffic interruption are described.
