Movement of seabed drifters near Columbia river
net movement in water deeper than 55 m was northward; at lesser depths, movement was southward and toward coast; drifters grounded in considerable numbers on ocean beach within 5 km north of north jetty of Columbia River and also on Clatsop Spit 5 km upriver on its south bank; relatively few were found on ocean beach near south jetty; movement near shore is in agreement with that deduced for bottom water, considering prevailing seasonal winds and waves and intrusion of seawater into estuary.
