Spillways and closures for large earth dams on Missouri river
System of dams is described briefly, in part by reference to map and profile, and to statistical table; topographic and geologic setting of dams is described with particular emphasis on features which governed design of spillways and closures; hydrologic analyses leading to determination of spillway capacities for each dam are outlined; particular emphasis is placed on large volume of flood storage provided at Oahe Dam which had favorable effect on spillway requirements for that project and for three dams downstream therefrom; layout and location of spillway for each dam is described and illustrated by photograph; chute spillways were used at all projects.
