Boqueron tunnels carry autopista through Andean foothills
Almost 1 1/2 mi of new 10.8-mi Caracas-La Guaria highway will be underground; two tunnels are respectively 5900 and 1560 ft long; each tunnel has twin bores, each bore carrying two lanes of traffic; both tunnels, entirely in rock, have horseshoe section 28.7 ft wide between inside of vertical walls and 19.7 ft high from roadway to crown of intrados; lining consists of reinforced concrete 2 ft thick.
