Stairs of Plashet County Secondary School at East Ham are prestressed with "Macalloy" high tensile steel bars, post tensioned to 42 tons per sq in.; tensioning procedure; one flight was tested to destruction over clear span of 20 ft 2 in.; total load at failure included, besides weight, superimposed load of 100 lb per sq ft, and 20, 130 lb spread over central 9 ft 2 in. of span.
