Extensions to Bologna University have partially prestressed reinforced concrete stairs which are helical in shape and eliptical in plan; height between floors is 19 ft 8 in.; superload was assumed to be 87 1/2 lb per sq ft; max stress in concrete 1000 psi; main beam is prestressed by two cables, each tensioned to 22 tons.
