Macrostructure of high carbon steels, such as ShKh15, melted in vacuum arc furnace
Spot segregation frequently encountered in ingots of this type of steel is explained by movement of metal in bath or ingot mold; movement is traced to interaction of electrical currents with uncompensated extraneous magnetic fields or presence of ferromagnetic masses close to furnace; remedies are indicated. (see also English translation in Stal in English n 1 Jan 1963 p 24-7)
