Spillway and sluices, allegheny dam, allegheny river Pennsylvania and New York
Investigation on 1:36-scale model involving verification of hydraulic performance of spillway, refinement of stilling basin design, and selection of high-level and low-level sluice designs; test results indicated that maximum expected discharge (140,000 cfs) was satisfactorily passed by spillway and 6 low-level sluices at head of 29 ft on spillway crest; horizontal low-level sluice with flared exit and tetrahedral deflector provided good flow distribution in basin; stilling basin effected satisfactory energy dissipation with apron raised 3 ft and baffle pier height decreased 3 ft.
