Comparison of triaxial compression test and field-plate-loading test for bearing capacity of soils
Plate load tests were conducted on 18 in. diam plate at various moisture contents in field on typical nonsensitive, precompressed clay; laboratory undrained triaxial compression tests were carried out on undisturbed samples at same moisture contents, simulating field stress conditions; field stress strain curves can be estimated from laboratory curves only under saturated conditions.
