Pahlavi Dam, 647 ft high, is in Khuzestan region of Iran; slender arch structure is located in 1500-ft deep canyon 15 mi north of town of Dezful, in Bahktiari Mountains; behind dam, reservoir will have capacity of 2.7 million acre-ft when full, and total area planned for irrigation is 362,500 acres; by end of Apr 1963 electrical output from dam is expected to reach 130 Mw; eventually it is planned to produce 520 Mw; dam will also be used to control floods on Karun River.
