Use of static soil penetrometer in Holland
Sounding method developed in Netherlands to test sub-surface conditions; test modified to include thin rubber membrane so that overburden on sample around cone could be simulated by air pressure; deep sounding as related to pile driving; determination of pile point level and permissible pile loads from sounding diagrams; procedure is used in which pile-driving is started at sounding point, and driving resistance encountered at required depth, as determined from sounding graph, is used as indication for piles situated between sounding points.
