Earthquake tests to determine building accelerations produced by strong ground motions
Horizontal force of 5000 lb was applied to building by means of "shaking" machine; another test was made when hillside near Corona, Calif, mining plant was blasted; strong ground motions measured in subbasement of test structure; while actual accelerations are 0.35 g (g=acceleration of gravity), tests were carried out with about 0.10g.
