Action of solutions of salts on ferrous metals
Examination of action on steel and cast iron of solutions of salts of concentrations approximately the same as those at which they are present in sea water; magnesium chloride and magnesium sulphate are relatively active, and attack steel more rapidly than cast iron, but in no case does rusting occur; with calcium sulphate a protective coating of rust is formed.
