Bored'n poured piles, Texas style
Bored pile construction method used for building open type reinforced concrete piers for 4000-ft long twin freeway bridge in Dallas; structure is Chestnut-Haskell Viaduct which carries 8-lane segment of 1-20 over rail yards and local streets near central business district; work was to sink some 380 drilled shafts of 36-in. diam to 55 or 60 ft depth, to support 66 pier bents and abutments; no stream sites or wet surface conditions were involved.
