South European pipe line; river crossings
330 m long harbor channel crossing by four 86 cm pipes at Port-le-Bouc was made by elastic deflection at depth of 22 m; very difficult crossing of river Durance entailed piercing 820 m long horizontal tunnel under river bed, with vertical shafts at both ends; in 290 m long Rhone and 300 m long Rhine river crossings, pipes were installed in ditch by pulling into position sections of pipe line constructed on banks; in Doubs river crossing, 110 m long siphon was floated across and immersed using hoisting equipment.
