In construction of 1.1 mi. extension of subway system, excavating and scaffolding were carried out under great difficulties to avoid interference with street traffic; two mixers with 1 yd. capacity each handled 78,500 cu. yd. of concrete; floor of tunnel consists of several layers of reinforced concrete (1:5) with protective coatings of asphalt and bitumen.
