Load distribution in high arch dams
Prerequisite to successful design is exact knowledge of various forces acting on and in dam, and author discusses method by which such knowledge may be obtained; these are based primarily on beam and arch deflections and by means of charts and simplified procedure, application is made simple and accurate; satisfactory method of arch-dam design requires more complete knowledge of temperature variations in concrete, and of effect on dam of elastic properties of foundation rock.
