Steel arch highway bridge, over Tyne River between Newcastle and Gateshead, is of two-hinged type; cost of bridge about $6,250,000; erection from both ends, first six panels of each rib supported by falsework, but as erection proceeded weight transferred to cables connected to top chord and carried back over temporary cable bents to anchorage in web of approach spans.
