Long concrete trestle of precast units
Rapid construction of 7-mi. vehicular bridge across San Francisco Bay, from San Mateo to Mt. Eden, made possible by use of precast piles, slabs and rails; width 27 ft.; design consists of four-pile bents of 116 35-ft. bays and 1054 30-ft. bays; each bay spanned by two 10-in. floor slabs cast integral with two longitudinal arched beams resting on concrete caps; plan of storage and casting yard; slab forms; pile driving; setting deck slabs; in addition to bridge proper, 4.75 mi. of approaches are being constructed.
