The design of the Carquinez Strait bridge
No other large bridge is provided with shock absorbers to prevent vibration from earthquakes as in case of this bridge which is fourth largest cantilever in world; use of silicon steel and heat-treated eyebars saved nearly $600,000; studies which lead to these and other decisions in design are here outlined and compared.
