The Newark metropolitan airport
Newark airport adjoins municipal docks and ship basin at Port Newark on shore of Newark Bay; it fronts for nearly one mile on concrete highway, being constructed by state to connect with Holland tunnel under Hudson River; when completed, Newark airport will cover area of 500 acres of what was formerly salt marsh; municipal hangars are being completed by city; double runway, built in shape of Maltese cross, 600 ft. wide and half mile long; in center of each runway there is takeoff strip 200 ft. wide, of cinders rolled hard and saturated with asphalt.
