Prior to construction of 19 mi long dam for Grand Rapids power project 250 mi north of Manitoba, 200 ft deep and 19 mi long underground grout curtain had to be constructed to prevent leaking from lake-reservoir through fractured limestone soil; curtain consists of single row of 2 in. diam grouting holes spaced at 5-ft intervals; drilling and grouting in 4 stages; work was continued in winter, often at -- 50 F.
