Stability of tensile cracks in prestressed concrete beams
Analytical study of problem of crack stability in prestressed concrete flexural members; effect of variations in steel ratio and initial level of prestress are considered; investigation covers both rectangular and flanged sections; it is shown that level of prestress influences instability of beams due to flexural cracking; at higher level of prestress, crack instability is of shorter range; increases in reinforcement ratio act to stabilize development of cracks at all stages; T-sections have least problem with crack instability.
