Study on differential shrinkage of composite prestressed concrete beam
Effects of differential shrinkage of composite beams having flange or upper half portion cast on precast prestressed beam; cast-in-place concrete was made with artificial light weight aggregates; variable involved in 30 beam specimens were shape of cross section, amount of shear connecter, ratio of shear span to beam depth, and age at casting slab; differential shrinkage set up internal stresses in composite construction and its effects on cracking moment and on ultimate strength of composite beams were studied; it is concluded that differential shrinkage has so profound effect that it should be taken into consideration in design, especially when slab concrete is placed at later time.
