Cathodic protection research pinpoints piling failures
Investigation on extent of steel sheet-piling deterioration at 8 Naval harbors was conducted by Bureau of Yards and Docks; all reports agreed that highest rate of corrosion occurs in region of periodic wetting by sea water; peak corrosion builds up in splash zone about 2 ft above mean-high-water level; beneficial effect of cathodic protection noted.
