Blackwall tunnel duplication
Construction of new tunnel and its immediate approaches to provide new road crossing of River Thames about 230 yds downstream of first Blackwall Tunnel; geological conditions encountered on line of tunnel and methods of ground treatment and construction are described; method of driving of tunnel in compressed air and construction of caissons; design and construction of cut-and-cover sections adjoining tunnel, tunnel roadway, ventilation, lighting, finishes and operational equipment are discussed; indication is given of how this new crossing fits into general road pattern of area.
