Thermal stresses in restrained rectangular plates
General solutions are given for determination of thermal stresses in rectangular plates restrained along one edge or two opposite edges and subjected to uniform heating; solutions are given first assuming that normal stress along restrained edge(s) is zero, and later considering both normal and shear stresses along restrained edge(s); stress distribution for these two types of restraint conditions were compared; for rectangular plate restrained along edge, detailed investigation was made to study effects of Poisson's ratio, plane stress, and plane strain assumption on stress distribution.
