Effect of petroleum sulphides and thiophens on oxidation properties of reactive fuels
Abstract 1. Petroleum sulphides separated from a 170–250° fraction have a high tendency to oxidation even at comparatively low temperatures (90°). The activation energy of oxidation of sulphides is 1.8 kcal/mole. 2. Products of oxidation of sulphides—sulphoxides are weak inhibitors in oxidation of hydrocarbons at temperatures lower than 120°. Above 130° sulphoxides oversaturate the hydrocarbon solution and precipitate into residue. 3. Petroleum sulphides do not have an inhibiting effect on oxidation of hydrocarbon fuels. 4. Petroleum thiophens of various diesel fuels with sulphur concentrations lower than 0.25 wt.% and at temperatures of 120–150° do not have a marked effect on kinetics of oxidation of a hydrocarbon mixture of medium fuel distillates.
