Investigation of the accuracy of the pneumatic averaging technique
Abstract Area loads are measured with a pneumatic averaging method which gives good agreement for the mean values when compared with numerically averaged results of transducers flush-mounted on the surface. Due to the complex wave propagation and attenuation process in a manifold-restrictor system there are deviations in the extreme value results of the two methods. For facade elements the extreme loads are most important for design, so care has to be taken in using the extreme values from pneumatic averaging.
