Conversions of α-methylstyrene on aluminosilicate at cracking temperatures
Abstract 1. A study was made of conversion of α-methylstyrene in the presence of an aluminosilicate catalyst at temperatures of 450–700° and at space velocities of 1.5; 2.2.5; 3.8 hr−1. It was shown that α-methylstyrene takes an active part in condensation reactions resulting in the formation of considerable amounts of coke on a catalyst and influencing the formation of other products of conversion. 2. It was established that dimerization, coke-formation and cumene formation are the main trends in the conversion of α-methylstyrene. Secondary reactions of the dimer and cumene form the final composition of products of conversion. 3. Main trends in α-methylstyrene conversions correspond to the electron structure of a phenylisopropyl cation, which is most likely to be formed in the presence of an aluminosilicate catalyst.
