AbstractEvery year, fire brigades turn out to about 500,000 fires in the U.K., approximately 900 people are killed and 10,000 are injured. The cost of fire damage is around £600 million a year. Large fires such as that which occurred at Kings Cross where 34 died are not uncommon, Bradford City football ground claimed the lives of 56 people and at Manchester airport 50 passengers died when fire swept through a Boeing 737.
