Flammability Characteristics of Vehicle Interior Materials
The project was conducted to determine experimentally the flammability characteristics of various passenger-car and school-bus interior materials, to evaluate existing laboratory test methods, to assemble fire prevention codes and fire statistics, and to recommend to the National Highway Safety Bureau a test procedure and a flammability performance standard. Over 200 interior materials, representing both domestic and some foreign makes of automobiles, were tested to determine their relative flame spread rates, and tabulated test results are given.
