A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
AbstractIn the Pacific northwest corner of the continental USA, on the eastern edge of the Pacific rim, Seattle's economy is ‘hot’. The home of Boeing, Seattle is riding the crest of that company's success. Increasingly integrated into the emerging international nexus of trade and investment across the Pacific rim, a very modern economic base is emerging. In migration, economic growth and rapid development are moving Seattle into the top rank of US cities. Seattle offers a unique quality of life and a stunning physical environment. To protect these attributes a major effort is under way to craft policies to avert sprawl, manage growth and minimize environmental degradation.
