Ni-exchanged cationic clays as novel heterogeneous catalysts for selective ethylene oligomerization
AbstractMontmorillonite rich clays, including bentonite, acid washed clay (K10) and Al-pillared clay were exchanged with nickel in order to prepare novel heterogeneous catalysts for the ethylene oligomerization. The catalytic properties were examined in flow mode (p=3.0MPa, T=150–350°C), and the results were related to the textural and acidic characteristics of the catalysts. Due to higher surface area and mesoporous volume, as well as moderate acidity, Ni-exchanged K10 exhibited superior catalytic behaviour compared to others catalysts. Ni-K10 was very active (TOF=570h−1), stable (high conversion during 20h on stream), and highly selective to linear C4 and C6 olefins.
Graphical abstract
HighlightsNi-clay catalysts were prepared by ionic exchange. The activity, selectivity and stability depended on the catalyst texture and acidity.Ni-K10 and Ni-PILC are effective catalysts for the ethylene oligomerization.
